A barb wire canoe, some closed doors, crossed fingers, musical chairs, an over and out and more...

Well, this is pretty much your last AdTown fix of the year, so read it and weep (and we're sure there's more than a few who will) if you will...

Up the creek

We all got behind KWP! when they were pitching for SA Tourism, and now it's time to get all touchy feely lovey dovey again with Clems competing against a couple of interstaters to hang on to the Jacobs Creek account. Well, sort of. While Clems are definitely up against DDB and Saatchi & Saatchi in Sydney, even if they do win it, word is it won't stay put here in SA but rather be based out of Clems Sydney. So come to think of it, there's no reason to get behind them on this one at all really. Cause no matter what happens, it will be another big client (they spent around $2.6mill over the past 12 months so yeah, that's pretty big) lost to Adelaide come March when a decision is expected to be made. So it looks like that glass is definitely half empty. Bugger.

And then there was one...

Speaking of stuff leaving Adelaide, it seems digital delivery company Dubsat in their infinite wisdom have decided to shut up shop. Maybe. The truth is, we don't have all the details, but from what we can gather, they'll be closing the doors of their Adelaide office next week for good. Well, not that there's anything 'good' about it, but you know what we mean. We're not exactly sure how they plan on servicing their local clients but the words "call Melbourne" might be on the cards we reckon. The good news is, their competitor Adstream is staying put with Senior Account Manager Julie Walker saying they are more than happy with how things are going here and are looking forward to a strong year ahead in 2009. We have a great bunch of clients with more and more of them discovering we can offer them more than just basic delivery services. The Adelaide market is important to us and were not about to go anywhere she said. You see, maybe if Dubsat had advertised on AdTown like Adstream did they'd be sweet now...

Digital Radio Arrives

For digital radio here in Australia, its been a case of all talk no action for quite some time. Until now that is as Austereo have just launched Australias first digital station. In what Austereo Chief Executive Officer Michael Anderson calls an incredibly exciting venture, Radar Radio will play undiscovered artists, with a heavy focus on Australian acts. The station is already online at radarradio.com.au and will be broadcast on the digital spectrum next year when the medium launches in Australia. While they may be new to digital radio, Austereo are no strangers to the digital space with over two million podcasts of their various shows already being downloaded every month. Anderson said Radar lets us build on the knowledge, experience and audience loyalty weve built up in the digital space in the past four years and is seen as an opportunity to have more tightly targeted brands.

More musical chairs

The year may be at an end, but that hasnt stopped a last minute round of musical chairs. Kate Muecke of Gray Management Group leaves to take up the position of Marketing Manager at Centro Colonnades.

Skycity makes another addition to their team with Adam Blowers replacing Kelly Noble who is heading overseas. Blowers who has just returned from a freelance stint in WA he described as an interesting experience was previously at Imagination and says he is looking forward to getting stuck into a role I will really enjoy.

Meanwhile, leading global media communications agency Starcom has appointed Yanni Pappas as Client Business Manager. Pappas was previously at Carat in Sydney where he worked on clients including Toshiba and KFC. Starcom Managing Director Ann Rogers said he brings some excellent blue chip client experience.

Will work for food

Speaking of jobs... Next year we hope to do more to help the starving people of the world, or at least those here in Adelaide dying to get into our industry. We're not really sure how we're gonna do it yet, but in the meantime, we do have a homeless 2nd year marketing student we're trying to find a home for. Full time, part time, a little bit of time, work experience, you name it... she's avail now until early March when Uni goes back, and from then she could still crank out 25 hours a week for you. So if you're looking for someone to help out in a marketing role or at an ad agency any time from now, she might be just the person you're looking for. You can view her CV here. (For the record, no she's not related, she just happened to ask for help and we said yes cause that's the kind of guys we are. Although there is a 15% fee payable should you employ her. Kidding. Maybe.)

Over and out for 08

Hold back the tears, cause this is also our farewell for 08. We hope you've enjoyed our efforts during the year and that you have an awesome Festive Season. Well be taking a break until some time in January (Like most things we do here at AdTown, we're not entirely sure when yet). So until then, leave a beer out for Santa and a bowl of water for the reindeers. Stay safe, and we'll see you next year.
