Bring it on!

We knew we were in trouble early when the info we got about the new Clipsal 500 TVC started with We open on a yurt. Any takers on what the fuck a yurt is? According to our good friends at Wikipedia its a portable, felt covered, wood lattice-framed dwelling structure used by nomads in the steppes of Central Asia. Which was actually pretty helpful until we got to the steppes bit at which point we wondered what the fuck a steppe was. Apparently its a prairie - especially a shortgrass one. Of course it is. With that sorted, we now know how the new Clipsal 500 ad starts (of course, we could have just bloody looked at the thing, but you get that). So now weve had an English lesson and know how it starts, we better tell you a bit about the actual ad.

From what we hear, the gang at KWP! toyed with the idea that for four days in March, Adelaide becomes "the epicentre of energy". Which, in fairness is way more compelling than it becomes the epicentre of bogans and dickhead drivers. Unfortunately for them, if they thought they could bang around the world to make the spot, they were ripped off big time. Because while the ad features some of the globes most exotic locations, creative James Rickard admits "the only trip we got was to Kent Town". Bugger. Yep, the exotic footage, which includes the Eiffel Tower and an exotic Mongolian landscape (think yurts and steppes) was courtesy of a combination of stock footage and the digital trickery of the crew at Oasis and Spirit Films.

For those of you wondering what all the tinkerbell lights are about, James says the concept is the party is so huge, energy is sucked up from all over the globe and unleashed in one massive, V8-fueled celebration of sight and sound.(Of course, the other thing that sucks is the Saturday night concert - Lee Kernaghan and The McClymonts? Are you shitting us?) But top the ad off with a cool soundtrack from the boys at Best FX and you've got a neat little spot for sure. And for those of you who like interesting little tid bits, if the Mongolian dude at the start of the ad looks familiar, you're either spending way too much time around yurts and steppes, or you might just recognise one of Adelaides best known Best Boys Werner Gerlach who plays the part.
