After a stint working on some oh so fancy magazines in London, local designer Kamina Couch (pronounced Cooch, and not like the thing you sit on) has ended up back in Adelaide working with a bunch of animals. Thats animals of the literal kind, and shes as happy as a pig in poo about it.
Turns out working with the sharks and snakes of fashion mags wore her down a bit and she was looking to work with great people on something a little less superficial when she saw the Zoo were looking for someone to help them implement their fancy new logo. OK, we admit, we think the word ZOOS looks kind of weird in the logo as well, but Kamina didnt do the logos, Showpony did. However, Kamina was more than happy to be able to help bring them to life across stationery and various print material that'll be rolling out over the coming months.
To be able to help the Zoo on their mission to save animals from extinction was Kaminas way of giving something back but still getting paid for it - albeit for much less than shed usually earn. I wanted to do something that had more to it and I get such a huge kick out of working with the Zoo Kamina added. I suppose at this point we could and maybe should be a little insulted that Kamina think us ad folk are all superficial bastards but what can we say? We happen to think we might have worked with a whole bunch of people who fit that description (and worse) in our time so we know exactly what she means - and consequently, shell get no argument from us.
Besides, when we asked if shed turned her back on the side of the business thats shallower than the penguin pool at the zoo and and if she'd knock back work if Vogue magazine rang up, she confessed she was actually heading up to Sydney next month to do some contract work for them! So presumably theres still room for a little bit of soul selling in between saving the cute little furry animals. Sounds good to us. Keep up the good work we say.
