New Kid on the Block is Foolproof

Its always been our perhaps insanely naive, optimistic (and financially unrealistic) mission here at AdTown to celebrate our industry. As a whole. To give the industry a bit of a voice. A place to go to talk, and hear, about work being done around town. It seemed to us that mostly the only local forum to do this was awards shows, and that basically excluded what we estimated was about 95% of the industry who were deemed un-award-worthy. So we're not adverse to giving someone a big plug - either cause we feel like it, or cause we've been paid handsomely (hint, hint). Today were celebrating a sensational achievement by a brand spanking new business on the scene - their very first job. Yes. Seriously.

Foolproof have only just opened their doors, in fact, the paint's probably still wet, and yet they were brave enough to respond to our call for news by proudly letting us know theyd just finished their very first job. Were not here to say the project for Lincoln Goodies, a gourmet food store in Port Lincoln, which included a logo, slogan, business cards, flyers, copy and design work is terrible or great. (You can decide for yourself here) What we do like is that one of the little guys out there had the balls to put their hand up and take the time to send us through a piece of work. And that's some serious ball action.

Luke Flesher (Oh come on, can we please make some gags about his last name?) is the guy behind Foolproof and it turns out his career has been through more twists and turns than the old Mad Mouse at The Show. After studying a Bachelor of Media at Adelaide Uni, he went on to work in various advertising/marketing positions at 5AA and Alienware Computers before venturing over to London where he worked at Ernst & Young and Porsche before ending up back in Adelaide with the idea of doing his own thing helping mainly small businesses make themselves look better. While hes not against a bit of freelance for other agencies while things get going, (youll find them in the directory section under freelancers offering copy writing, copy editing and proof reading), hes decided agency life probably isnt his thing and hes determined to make Foolproof a success and lists Virgin as his ideal account - Sean Cummins, you have been warned.

After speaking to him for quite a while it was pretty clear Luke fell into the creative side of things, but we had a bit of trouble working out whether he considered himself a writer or art director. Turns out the answer is yes to both. Hell, why not. Oh, and his email sign off features the sign off Poor grammar looks bad which, for the art directors out there who know no better, isnt actually correct (looks doesnt need that little dashy apostrophe thing in it) and we think thats hysterical. We're hoping it's intentional. So yeah, todays story is simply to celebrate ballsy bravery, say good luck Luke and to encourage the rest of you slack arses to send in your stories. If you don't send us stuff, you make our job harder. So get sending good people of AdTown and who knows, maybe you'll end up getting a big plug next time.
