Would You Like Fries With That?

Late last year, one of Adelaides most recognised and loved production facilities changed hands - but it has to be said, without all that much fanfare. So we thought wed find out exactly what happened in that fantastic old (and supposedly haunted) building over there on North Terrace, and let you know all about it.

Way back in December, what was once Peppers Video and Rivetts Audio before going through several incarnations including, most recently, Imagination Digital Media, became McBocks.

The name, courtesy of co-owners Scott McBain and Brenton Bock (Scott maintains hes the McB part of the name, and all Brenton got was the ocks) was the result of an enormous amount of time on the creative process. In truth, they used their names because after more years in various sectors of the industry than either of them would care to admit, they felt there was parts of our reputation that were still in tact - enough to benefit from using them in their business name anyway.

While accepting the heady days of the 80s and 90s when some of Australia's finest creative came out of that building as well as rock legends like Lenny Kravtiz banging out a few tunes there are long gone, with its studio, audio and video production facilities (not to mention swimming pool!) Scott says theres no reason this cant be a one stop production shop for local agencies again. Whether or not Lenny returns for an encore remains to be seen though. And while somwhere like Kojo tends to work on the high end projects including features and the like, Scott sees McBocks being able to fit nicely into the mid-range work. McBock's currently do a fair whack of retail stuff but theyre keen to do more corporate work, including for online use, which theyve been doing a bit of lately - including a recent project Scott wrote, directed, produced and yep, you guessed it, starred in! He may have been in front of mics and cameras for most of his career, but this was the first time he'd worked behind the scenes as well, and its a role hes thrown himself into with the gusto of a Chinese solider at a 'peaceful' demonstration for Tibet. And with Brenton now having stepped out of the day to day running of the business to pursue a special project, hes found himself relishing more roles than he may first of imagined.

Its a far cry from his days on TV and radio, and an even further cry from the labouring work he was doing in Moomba when the media work dried up prior to taking on McBock's. Of course, the motorcycle accident that left him in intensive care for a week and the months of recovery that followed gave him plenty of time to think about what he wanted to do next, and itd be fair to say hes well and truly back on his feet (literally as well as figuratively) after a pretty rough year or so. Wed like to provide the absolute best service we possibly can he said. That service aspect of the industry has been left a bit wanting of late and thats where we can be different. Weve got a really good bunch of people and were not just driven by the dollar. I want our staff to enjoy what they do and turn out great quality product he added. Well, however it turns out its gotta be more enjoyable than getting splattered all over the bitumen in a motorcycle accident so were sure hell like it just fine.
