OK, OK, so we'll be the first ones to confess, 'we've got you covered' is hardly the most amazingly uniquely original campaign concept going around. It's probably not much further up the ladder than that old 'It's our birthday and you get the presents' chestnut. So we're not about to be too harsh in our judgement of one ad being a bit similar to another just because they have a similar theme.
And Adelaide being Adelaide, we'll also be gracious enough to admit the pool of talent to draw upon would definitely be at the 'no diving' end of things. Having said all that, let's take a closer look at the naked truth behind the latest Profix TVC, and a previous Ed Harry print piece from a year or so ago (used with the line 'now we've got you covered too' to promote new store openings) - both produced right here in little old Adelaide.
They both feature the same male model, Nathan, wearing not very much. And they both have him covering his bits with a strategically placed item. Sure, Profix has even more nude dudes to keep him company, (not that there's anything wrong with that), and yes they're for different product categories, but you have to confess the similarities are more than skin deep. Or are they?
Having stripped away the layers behind the ads including the casting procedures (Ed Harry found their talent at the local gym, while Profix cast via Facebook) we'd be complete tools to suggest Profix need a tune up and the similarities are anything more than mere coincidence. Had we been a little more philosophical we might also make an insightful comment about the gender double standard of ads like this featuring men being able to run without anything being pulled (the ads, not the bits in question) whereas if it used half naked women, whoa, the offending ad would be pulled off air quicker than you can say "nice tallywacker". But, well, we're either simply not that deep, or saving that particular observation for another day. (Even we're not sure which yet.)
