Meet Them New People At Them

After a hiring spree to rival the Olympic security teams, it seems theres suddenly more new people at Them Communications than in the Big Brother house. Although sadly, none of them are midgets. Cause that would be awesome. But enough about midgets.

Roger Keynes joins Them Communications, "South Australias Leading Advertising Agency" (hey, Thems words, not ours) as Senior Copy Writer and along with his pens and pencils brings with him "20 years of experience in agencies across Australia and with his own business".

Hayden Mattiske and David Capriotte on the other hand, are new to the game and are now Junior (in status, not physical size) Graphic Designers. Having been out in the job search wilderness for a grand total of about five minutes, they were both picked up almost straight out of TafeSAs Advertising and Graphic Design course before theyd even had a chance to put away their crayons.

Its a little known fact Hayden actually turned his back on a promising career as a professional table tennis player to give this design thing a bit of a crack. OK, thats a bit of an exaggeration. The truth is, Hayden did in fact play table tennis for East Adelaide, but his playing career mostly consisted of "being beaten by young Asian kids".

Not surprisingly, having heard all the horror stories about how hard it is getting a foot in the door, the guys were "very happy to get a job so quickly" and are now enjoying working on a wide variety of projects ranging from Corporate ID through to press and TV ads. While Hayden leans towards the design side of things, David has his sights sets firmly on a career thats rated right down there with being a car salesmen (according to Roy Morgans latest Image of Profession survey). Yes, Advertising. And hes off to not a bad start having already picked up an award at this years AADC Awards. Something 99.9% of the rest of the industry never managed to do! Bastard.

With a start like that, he must be thinking this whole Advertising things a bit of a lark. Certainly Haydens thoughts about the industry come as no surprise. "I had a lot of expectations about it and its pretty close to what I thought. But the time we get to do things is a lot less and what were expected to do in that time is a lot greater" he said. Ah, welcome to the wonderful world of advertising!
