Awards Frenzy

It would appear award season is well and truly in full swing. Whether youre a designer, cinematographer, PR person or a US president, theres been something up for grabs recently... So here we go with a quick summary of all of them for you all.

Designers

First, a massive apology to Drew Joyce over at Working Images. Last week we told you about the AGDA Awards and how two of just nine Pinnacles awarded nationally were given to SA design houses. Well, it turns out local design company Working Images also won a Pinnacle for their Waiting for a rainbow poster design bringing the SA tally to three. Sorry Drew!

Cinematographers

The Australian Cinematographers Society had their SA & WA ACS awards with SAs cinematographers taking home all but one of the awards in the Commercials categories. Amongst the winners were Spirit Films Ernie Clarke for his work on the Nightclub TVC for JAM client Drug and Alcohol Services of SA, Aaron Gully for the Australian Central Happy Talk TVC through Einstein da Vinci and a spot for SA Toursim and Russell Marrett for his work on Clemengers Pimp My Kettle TVC for client Fantastic. Corey Piper also snared a a bronze for his Port Power Shadow TVC and Anifex picked up their fair share of awards for various projects in the Experimental and Specialised Cinematography category. Richard Chattaway grabbed bronze for MTV Australias Optus 180 Project, Jo Rossiter picked up Silver for his work with Mr Rental and JoAnne Bouzianis-Sellick nabbed  Silver for her work on The Perils of Flossy - a four part mini-series. Anifex Managing Director Richard Chataway said it was heartening that although the year has been tough and budgets have been mercilessly low, Anifex is still producing world-class animation. One other notable winner on the night was Kojo Group founding partner Kent Smith who took out the highly coveted Gold Award in the feature film category for the Kojo Pictures film Beautiful. All Gold winners go on to compete at the National finals for a Golden Tripod - the ultimate prize for Australian cinematographers

PR

SA companies picked up two gongs at the Public Relations Institute of Australias recent Golden Target Awards in Fremantle. Hughes PR were a Commended Winner in the Environment category for their Where the Sun Shines work promoting the 3rd International Solar Cities Congress held in Adelaide in February. In the Special Event/Observance category, Communikate et Al were recognised with a Highly Commended Winner for their work on the Adelaide Festival of Arts with Senior Consultant Alex Ruffin attending to collect the award. It was the first time the Festival had outsourced their PR and the client was understandably pleased with box office takings which were 52% beyond their targets. PRIA President Tracy Jones described the standard of this years record number of entries as exceptionally high and said the calibre of the winners further demonstrated the excellent quality and growth of the PR industry in Australia.

US Presidency

OK, while you may not have been in the know on the Golden Targets or ACS awards, we're guessing by now you may have already heard about the results on this one. For those of you who have been too busy watching endless variations of CSI, yes, Barack Obama took home the gong on this one.
