Amongst all the incoherent babbling, Sputnik delivered his version of an official speech that went something, although not exactly, like this:
Who says nothing ever happens in Adelaide?
Yes, were up there with Barry Manilow and Irish people when it comes to being the butt of some admittedly pretty funny jokes.
Yes, they roll up the footpaths here at about 9:30pm.
Yes, we have some pretty sick fucks who kill people and do things like stuff them in barrels.
And no, our marketing, advertising and design industry isnt as big as say Melbournes or Sydneys. Which, without wanting to suggest any radical hypothesis or theories, just might have something to do with the fact our state isnt as big as places like NSW and VIC.
But that doesnt mean we dont have literally our fair share of news and goings on.
And so earlier this year AdTown was created to give our industry a voice and a forum seeing as were so completely and comprehensively overlooked by the Melbourne and Sydney wankers who believe their shit doesnt stink and no-one else matters. Regional? Fuck you.
A Yellow Pencil at D&AD. Silver at the London International Advertising Awards. A Caxton. A finalist at Cannes. Theyre just some of the highlights from 2008. No, not truckloads. But yes, from Adelaide.
AdTown covered these stories. And stories about staff moves, accounts won (and lost) and new campaigns. Along with a heathy smattering of irreverent opinions on whats going on in the industry. Whats right, whats wrong and whats what.
We can be accused of lots of things. Maybe were not always completely accurate. Maybe were not always, or possibly ever, funny. And some of the stuff weve done has been pretty crappy and failed dismally - making money has been one of those things. And no doubt, if we survive long enough, therell be plenty more failures to come. And well be damn proud of all of them.
Cause at least were doing something.
We love Adelaide. And we love this industry. Yes, it has its moments... thats Adelaide and the industry for you, but flamingo bashings aside, good stuff does happen here. And hey, would you believe an even 200 stories later, were pretty sure we can prove it.
