An AdTown World Exclusive

Today, a story of a different kind. Because in our effort to let you know whats going on around town, todays story is about us. Yes, thats right, an AdTown story about AdTown. Cool, huh?

After five ridiculously busy, hectic but also hugely satisfying months bringing you 114 stories, 2 videos and 5 photo albums filled with 208 pics about whats what and who's who in Advertising, Design and Marketing here in Adelaide, were getting ready to make a few changes. So, lets get started then.

In Facebook terms, wed simply say AdTown is no longer listed as single. Thats right, starting today, AdTown is getting into bed with The Independent Weekly. Some might call it some sort of joint venture or strategic alliance. Us being us, were just saying were doing stuff with them. So if you peruse through The Independent Weekly, starting with todays fine edition, you may just notice well be contributing to their Adland section. Sometimes thatll be stuff you may already have seen in some shape or form on here, sometimes well break news there and follow it up here. The truth is, were still making up the rules so that will kind of sort itself out over time. One thing we can promise you is, the stories on here are likely to be a bit more in depth (ie well crap on a bit more), a tad less professional (ie well probably still drop a swear word or two) and not everything we run on AdTown online will be suitable to grace the pages of their very slick publication where things like truth, justice and the Australian way probably still matter.

As you can imagine, were pretty darn excited about being able to share whats going on with an even wider audience. For you, that means when you share news with us, instead of being seen by the hundreds of completely excellent AdTown online readers who we of course love dearly, it might just end up in front of their entire readership - which includes a very tasty selection of local business and marketing people who may not yet have discovered the joys of AdTown. We think youll agree this is one small step for AdTown, one giant leap for AdKind.

Well also be taking this opportunity to tweak exactly what goes on our site and when. So itd be great if you could hang in there with us while we experiment with our content and format a little. Weve got a few cunning plans up our sleeves, some of which are bound to be slightly less spectacularly successful than others, but then, thats what the creative process is all about, right? The main thing is were more committed than ever to delivering a great place to stay in touch with whats going on around town and do a bit of connecting and well be doing everything we can to keep on keeping on.

And finally, a bit of a Claytons announcement (for those of you under about 35, youll just have to take our word for it the Claytons thing - the drink you have when youre not having a drink was actually a pretty amusing ad reference from an era when Fat Cat still came on TV at 7:30pm to tell kids to go to bed. Click here if you still dont believe us). Wed like to officially announce local creative Sputnik as the official Mayor (and editor, writer, photographer and webmaster etc) of AdTown. Although seeing as its actually him, ah, me, writing this now (now that was kinda weird), I probably shouldnt really be welcoming myself, but thats just the way life in AdTown is sometimes. I think weve been up and running long enough now to have proven beyond doubt that AdTown is a fair, neutral and impartial view of the industry. And since The Independent Weekly will now include a writers credit it seemed like the write, ah, right time to just make it all official. You know, to the three people who didnt already know.

So there ya go, consider yourself updated. And as always, thanks beyond words to everyone whos supported AdTown so far by sharing their news, upgrading their membership or advertising on here. Your support is literally everything to us.
