Young Marketers On Speed.

Its a constant source of amusement to us here at AdTown, that even in a town as compact as Adelaide, we feel the need to completely segregate people based on which part of our industry theyre in. OK, we get it, designers arent the same as advertising people. And marketing people arent the same as digital content creators. And blah blah blah. Stiff shit. At the end of the day, and the beginning of it for that matter, were all in the business of marketing arent we? Doing our little bit to make the wheels of commerce turn? Sometimes working together, sometimes not. Sometimes on different sides of the fence. Sometimes oceans apart with our approach. But you know, in the same boat - albeit a amore diverse boat than the Ark (as in Noahs as opposed to The Arkaba on Glen Osmond Rd).

So anyway, originally we imagined AdTown to be a bit of neutral turf for everyone to cross paths and share ideas, news and information - you know, a bit like Geneva only without the convention. Of course, some of those individual groups have embraced the idea better than others. Thankfully, the open minded young turks at MAGNET are one such amiable group. For those of you who dont know, MAGNET is a part of the Australian Marketing Institute that was formed in 2000 by "a group of young marketers who saw a need for networking opportunities and professional development. According to Virginia Webb of the AMI, MAGNET here in Adelaide is one of the more dynamic groups in Australia so its little wonder their ideas get picked up around Australia. Their upcoming Meet Your Match event is a great example of this. Based on the speed dating concept, Meet Your Match is a speed networking event giving our young guns a chance to meet marketing professionals from some of the most renowned and successful companies. After all, as they rightly point out, "it's often not what you know, but who you know".

Although there was some anxiety over how it would work when it was first introduced here in Adelaide last year, It was a very successful event Virginia said, adding People werent sure what to expect but both sides really enjoyed it. You might think finding marketers to get in on the act would be difficult, but apparently thats not the case with some of last year's marketers already putting their hands up to be a part of it all again this year with Virginia confirming people are really interested in sharing their skills.

We have to say, it sounds like a bloody great idea to us, so if you want to make sure there's a place there for you (on either side of the table), youd better contact Virginia soon as this years Meet Your Match event is just around the corner on October 6 and is likely to sell out.
