When we found out there was a new model agency in town, we weren't exactly slow in making a few phone calls to get in on the story. As much as we liked Christabel, the brains behind Pride Models, we have to say we're a tad disappointed she didn't send a bunch of her great looking models around to tell us all about it. Although in fairness, if she'd done that, we may have been too distracted to take any note of what she was actually up to.
As it is, we did pay attention and here's what we found out: After a pretty successful stint at Fox Models, Christabel had the urge to go it alone and do things her way and that's how Pride Models came into being. So what exactly is her way? To start with, she won't be forcing courses "teaching people how to walk with books on their heads" down the models throats, but rather offering some workshops teaching real world skills. Good news if you're a model. And even better if you want to book (no pun intended) a model who's well prepared for the job. Oh, and at the risk of sounding a bit cliched, she was quick to point out she had more than her fair share of "fresh faces who haven't been plastered over everything" which is always nice too.
She'll also be able to supply promotional as well as photographic and fashion models. And don't kid yourself they're one and the same, they're not. As Christabel was quick to point out, some people think all it takes to be a good promo model is "boobs and a pretty face". And while there's no doubt that's probably a great start, with Pride Models, they say it's "80% based on personality and the ability to be engaging and enthusiastic" and have some genuine sales skills. Although they are likely to have boobs and a pretty face as well. Something Loreal Luxury Brands seem to appreciate as they use Pride Models to promote a few little brands you may have heard of including Ralph Lauren and Armani fragrances.
Overall, it's Christabel's attention to detail that's helped her build a reputation that's every bit as attractive as her models. And just to take that lovey dovey feel good factor to a whole new level, she's also looking to offer courses to younger women to help them with body image issues teaching them about how the media distorts beauty, retouches photographs and the like. Which is kinda like Pauline Hanson offering courses on immigration and racial tolerance, but is still a brilliant idea and at the end of the day, maybe a model agency is the perfect place to offer such a course with an inside perspective.
You can find Pride Models on the internet - although be warned: in an effort to protect the privacy of her models from non-industry prying eyes you won't get very far without a username and password. Apparently that's how some of the better international agencies do things. So if you want to check out their site, just email them and tell them you're a super cool AdTown member. It won't make any difference what-so-ever, but if you're in the industry, you'll be given the keys to the castle and you can see what all the fuss is about.
